Beth McGarry

Financial Controller

What do you do?

I’m responsible for overseeing all aspects of the account’s functions at Arbury, which includes ensuring the smooth production of monthly management accounts, detailed balance sheet reconciliations, and maintaining the debtor and creditor ledgers. I produce financial reports and management information to aid decision-making, which helps to grow and develop the business. I also look after a team of accountants, accounts assistants and administrators, and provide continuous support, training and development.

Tell us about your journey with Arbury.

My journey with Arbury started in April 2015 when I joined as a Trainee Dealership Accountant at our ŠKODA site in Leamington. I had no previous experience in this role but was given the opportunity to learn on the job. I was provided with full support and training from my then Financial Controller, Steve, and my colleagues. Fast forward six months and I was then responsible for our Nissan and PEUGEOT site in Leamington, where I spent a further two years.

I had a few years away from the business and rejoined in May 2022 as Financial Controller. Similarly to my first encounter with Arbury, I have no previous experience in this role but, again, with full support and training from my now Finance Director Steve, I hope to make the same success of this role as I did with the last.

What made you join Arbury?

The opportunities that Arbury offer will always be the reason why I joined and rejoined. I’m yet to find another employer that is willing to take a chance on people when they know they aren’t quite where they need to be, but are prepared to provide the training and support in order to get them there. I’ve found that as long as you have the right attitude and desire to succeed, Arbury will support you in your ambitions to make this a reality. This is what makes Arbury different from the rest.

What are your future goals within Arbury?

Firstly, to make a success of my current role. To learn, grow and develop, and ultimately help the business to succeed as it helps me to do the same. Secondly, to develop my team and help them achieve their goals and ambitions. Finally, to look at ways in which we can improve our current processes and find new methods of reaching our current targets and deadlines, both internally and those set by our manufacturers.

What do you love about working at Arbury?

The culture, the opportunities and the people.

Sum up working at Arbury in one word.

Fulfilling.
