Not only that, but we are also running staff training courses so our team feel comfortable using them, should they need to.

Purchased in conjunction with St John Ambulance, our chosen defibrillators are fully automatic and produced by ZOLL – the UK’s leading supplier of medical devices and software solutions that help advance emergency care and save lives. Read on for further information about Arbury’s invaluable decision to invest in these devices.

What are defibrillators, and why have them at Arbury?

A defibrillator is a portable device that gives a high-energy electric shock to the heart of someone who’s in cardiac arrest, and it can be used on an adult or indeed anyone over the age of one. In short, early defibrillation is a critical component in treating cardiac arrest.

Did you know that, every year, approximately 55 out of every 100,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, with most occurring in the home or workplace? In 7 out of 10 cases, CPR is attempted by a bystander, and in less than 1 out of 10 cases, a public access defibrillator (AED) is reported as being used.

As a bystander performing CPR using an AED, you could boost the casualty’s chances of survival by two to four-fold. The significance of having a defibrillator available is that, by using one before an ambulance arrives, you can vastly increase someone’s chance of survival.

Who can use a defibrillator, and how do they work?

The good news is that anyone can use a defibrillator – they’re simple and easy to use, and you don't need any training.

You’ll find clear instructions in the pack on how to attach the defibrillator pads to the chest, and the device then assesses the casualty’s heart rhythm. It will only instruct you to deliver a jolt if it’s required – don’t worry, as this can’t be done accidentally. If a shock is needed and therefore administered, this can then get the heart beating normally again.

We’re sure you’ll agree that this is a forward-thinking and vital purchase for all Arbury dealerships and PDI centres, and we trust this will provide all customers, team members and the wider community with much-needed peace of mind in the event of such an emergency.
