Rob Gill, Motors Editor at The Sun, said: “We can’t get enough of them. Qashqai is the car that started it all and now the clever e-POWER system moves the game on even further. It has all the advantages of an electric car without the not-so-good bits like recharging with a plug. The petrol engine charges the battery, and electric motor drives the wheels. This latest award comes as another well-earned accolade for Nissan. The Qashqai is a British-built model and has enjoyed much publicity and praise for not only its performance but also for its exceptional, award-winning marketing. Only last month, a replica of the Nissan Qashqai was attached to the chimney of the Truman Brewery in East London as part of their marketing campaign, winning further admiration from industry experts.

How does e-POWER work? 

Traditional hybrids usually require recharging in order to power their electric motors. The smart innovative nature of Nissan’s e-POWER powertrain means that no plugging-in is required, saving time and money and delivering electric power to the wheels.  

The New Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER contains a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that generates electricity. This then travels through an inverter to either the 140kW electric motor or the 1.8kWh battery, or both depending on the driving situation. This smart system then moderates the amount of electricity delivered to the vehicle’s speed so as not to waste any precious energy and keep the Qashqai e-POWER running efficiently at all times.
